I WAS FISHING NEXT TO A GUY WHO WAS USING A REGULAR ROD, BUT WAS FLY FISHING?

How do I invoke my aerobatics handgun into one where I can ingest flies? He had something on the modify of his line. Thanks for help

I used to do this all the time. You can take a bobber and put a fly on the end, then attach the bobber a few feet above the fly. The bobber will add weight to your cast and then the fly will act like a fly on the water.
If I was fishing in a creek, I would just take my light-weight pole, and not use any weight, just float the fly out there and let line out, just like floating bait

they make bobbers that you can put water in – normally they are clear with a piece of rubber going thru the middle – you put your line thru it and twist the bobber (that is how it stays in one place) then you pull the bottom of the bobber down and put water in it (for casting weight) clear bobber cuts down on fish seeing it.
Then you’d tie a 3-8 foot leader (2 -3- or 4lb line) to a barrel swivel and put the fly on the end…experiment ( I use about 6ft)
Cast it out and experiement on how fast to bring it in to give the fly the best action …

He was probably using a bubble-bobber like this:http://www.shootnhunt.com/catalog/JM/flo…
Usually referred to as fishing with “bubble & fly.” It’s not fly fishing.
By partially filling the bubble with water, you add the weight necessary for casting virtually weightless objects, such as fishing flies.
Be forewarned…this is not a particularly effective means for presenting flies.

If you use a ultralight rod try this: Find a heavy floating fly line like 8 or 10 wt., cut a 4 foot section off and tie it to your mono on your spinning reel. Add some tippet and attatch your fly. It’s somewhat awkward to cast at first but do-able. You may have to experiment with the length of your fly line. You are essentially using the fly line as weight to cast and a delivery method for your fly. My Grandfather has a bad rotator cuff and would use this technique while fishing with me.

Your best bet would be to buy a fly rod and reel. you can pick up a beginner combo for a reasonable price and you will have much better casting results. On fly line you have a piece of line that absorbs water to give enough wheight to cast the fly that is most likely what u saw on his line.

it a fly bubble on the end of thee line, it adds enough weight to the line so you can cast it but floats for floating flies.http://www.reactionbaits.com/detail.aspx…
you can also buy them at most big stores like walmart in the fishing section.
