Can you change the inspire on a control rod? If so how. And there is a fix on the mitt lateral in the region of the lurch what is it for?

The button on the left side is for dis-engaging the spool from the reel.
If there is a knob on the other side of the reel, it is for drag control.
Some fly reels are built without a drag control and employ what is known as a click drag. You control the fight of the fish with your hand, “palming” the reel to add drag manually.

a fly rod reel is not a “reel”, rather a line holder. To “reel” in a fish you keep pressure with your index finger and pull on the string with your other hand. After fish is landed, then you reel in your line.
