If you have a fairly long (7′+) light-action baitcasting rod, it might work reasonably well. If not, then you could try putting small split shot sinkers on the flies and fish them like a jig.

No you can’t. A rod at least 7 ft. is needed but the most important thing is fly fishing line. In fishing with flies, you cast the line, not the bait like other fishing methods. You need a long rod to whip a length of line heavy enough to deliver the fly. Fly rods are built, both stiffness and length to handle a specific weight and taper of line.

It’s not a good combination as the bait casting rod does not have the flexibility of the fly rod which is designed to help cast the line and deliver the fly to the fish. You will have a better experience fishing with the right equipment. Tight lines!

No! the fly line casts the fly nothing else you must realize that before even attempting to fly fish, you need a fly line, tapered leader, tippet and a fly rod before you can even consider casting a fly.

Sorry but you cant do that. Fly rods are made to cast a certain weight line…Fly rods are also much longer than most baitcasting rods. You won’t be able to cast it very effectively and you would end up just getting frustrated.

Try it and see! My guess is that the rod will be a bittoo short and stiff to cast effectively. You might want to pick up a nice travel fly rod; try http://www.marchbrown.com, I think they make the best ones.

You can but it is not very effective. Fly rods are much more flexable and have the length and soft tip.
